Colleen Critcher Artist Biography & Statement
Colleen Critcher is a visual artist fascinated by commodity culture, kitsch, and plastic things. Her artworks obsessively explore images of mystical garden gnomes, unicorns, and dinosaur figures as she investigates the powerful significance of seemingly menial images revealed in contemporary life.
Colleen Critcher is a lifelong artist and holds an M.F.A. in Painting from Savannah College of Art and Design. She currently lives in Florence, South Carolina where she maintains a painting and printmaking studio. She has taught art foundations courses at Coker University, Coastal Carolina University, and Francis Marion University where she served as gallery coordinator for Steven Gately Gallery. Her work has been shown at The Southern, Redux Contemporary Art Center, Kai Lin Art, Gutstein Gallery, and 701 Center for Contemporary Art.
