Oil and spray paint on gallery wrapped canvas and infused with healing reiki energy
Lily is a self-taught painter working in oil and mixed media to create color-saturated seascapes and abstracts. A native Floridian born in Miami in 1981, whose first career was working with refugees in the Middle East, Lily approaches each painting with a deep respect for sense of place. Growing up in Florida, she was always longing to be elsewhere, and the idea of “elsewhere” gained mythic proportions in her imagination. As an adult with freedom of place, she is especially enthralled by the tensely entwined feelings of freedom and nostalgia that certain places can give us.
Lily attended Bowdoin College and Harvard University, and only has two measly art classes on her resume to show for it. What she does credit is her lifelong (since age 10) meditation practice as a way to tune in and receive guidance towards her highest work. It was through this meditation practice that Lily first began to see her abstract work. There is an entire language that flows through an abstract painting, and Lily considers them vision boards for all her deepest desires and highest goals both for herself and the planet. A disciple of reiki healing practices, Lily also infuses her abstract work with reiki energy. Lily’s driving belief is that all paintings are infused with the energy of place, thought, and artist, and grow and evolve in meaning depending on the unique context of each viewer. One of her highest motivations is to show others that all of our desires are solid ground to stand on, and there is so much magic waiting for us when we choose to honor whatever it is we most want.
