Cynthia Young Artist Statement

As an atmospheric landscape painter, I am drawn to the quiet power of nature—its shifting light, subtle moods, and the emotional resonance of open spaces. My work is a response to the feeling of being immersed in a moment: a heavy sky before rain, the hush of dawn over a still field, or the fading glow of twilight on water. I paint to capture what can’t always be seen, but is deeply felt.

Through layered brushwork, muted tones, and a focus on atmosphere over detail, I aim to evoke a sense that is both familiar and elusive. My process is intuitive, guided by memory, observation, and the constant interplay between light and landscape. Each painting is an invitation to pause, reflect, and reconnect—with the natural world and with oneself.
