Acrylic and colored pencil on cradled wood panel

I’m drawn to the tension between control and looseness, and that balance guides my process. I often begin with an impulsive line, allowing the paint to move freely as I layer, push, and pull color across the surface. Gradually, I introduce edges, shapes, and patterns, creating a negotiation between spontaneity and restraint, clarity and blur.

Landscapes often emerge, rooted in childhood memories of long road trips spent staring out the car window, watching fields and towns blur past. I studied their lines, patterns, and shifting colors, imagining the lives unfolding within them. Those impressions continue to find their way into my work. My paintings are imagined landscapes rather than depictions of specific places, sometimes evoking a memory, a familiar feeling, or the sense of having been somewhere before.

Working primarily in acrylic and pencil, I move between deliberate decisions and intuitive discoveries, allowing each painting to evolve in its own way. I hope my paintings offer a moment of pause, a chance to step away from everyday noise, find a sense of wonder, and discover a personal connection within these imagined spaces.

I let each painting go when it feels complete. There is always another horizon ahead.
