My work is inspired by different techniques and styles of painting. Some days I feel inspired by the vast landscapes around me and will explore abstraction with bold lines and the natural dripping of the paint. On other days I like to focus on details and quiet down and get into the flow. This freedom has allowed me to dip in and out of abstraction, realism and symbolism to investigate themes of beauty, moments in time and my inner self. One subject matter that has taken over my recent work is flowers. Flowers are a part of daily life; celebrations, birthdays, funerals, hospital stays, outside in nature and inside of our homes, wild and free and precisely gardened and pruned. From peonies to tulips and hibiscus and lotus, flowers awaken my senses with their colors, textures and fragrances. I have considered the meanings behind flowers to myself personally and across cultures. Using flowers as my inspiration I am able to play and experiment with meaning and form.
