Jennifer Peart Artist Biography

Jennifer Peart is a Sacramento-based artist creating visionary landscape paintings that explore the intersection of nature, design, and the speculative worlds of science fiction. Raised in the rural Sierra Nevada Mountains, she developed a deep connection to the land, which remains central to her artistic practice. Drawing from mid-century modern architecture, science fiction, and world-building tabletop games, Peart reimagines environments through a lens of possibility. A self-described "visionary fiction scholar," Peart studies past visions of the future through the works of authors such as Octavia Butler and Ursula K. Le Guin. These imagined futures shape her explorations of the human relationship with nature and the environment.

Statement

Reimagining untold futures and endless possibilities, I create visionary landscape paintings that explore unrealized dreams and the collective potential for ecological renewal. My work examines how landscapes - both real and imagined - hold histories of transformation, erosion, and regeneration. Inspired by mid-century modern architecture, science fiction, and my connection to the land, I merge organic forms with graphic motifs and architectural structures, exploring how moments of instability give rise to adaptation and repair. Each painting serves as a portal into speculative futures, where remnants of the past intertwine with visions of restoration and renewal. Through unconventional color palettes, spatial inversions, and layered textures, I invite viewers to contemplate the beauty of impermanence, the complexity of balance, and our evolving relationship with the natural world.
