"This palm tree is one of hundreds of palms found at Puʻuhonua National Park in Big Island, Hawai’i. This park has historical significance. In early 19th century, Hawaiians who broke a law could avoid certain death by fleeing to this place of refuge or puʻuhonua. Defeated warriors and non-combatants could also find refuge here during times of battle. In present day, this is a beautiful and relaxing park by the ocean to visit.
